1. As technical director of Kemestrie Inc., a technology holding company founded in
Sherbrooke in 1995, I have developed a new waste gasification technology which
gave birth to the new spin-off entity, Enerkem Technologies Inc., the precursor
of Enerkem Inc.. The latter is a well-established
Canadian leader in the field of renewable liquid fuels production from residual
streams.
2. Two of my recent patents
plus one from previous years research activities have attracted the interest of
the companies KWI and Soleno. Their motivation arises
from the possibility of converting zero-value plastic resides into carbon
nanofilaments and use of the latter as a plus-value additive in new
thermoplastic and thermoset polymers. An 1.5MM$
project to make the proof of concept at pilot/demonstration scale is underway
with the participation of NSERC, Prima Québec and the two companies. The UdeS built
a new 1.2MM$ worth, 300 m2, facility. This scale-up project was
triggered by the need to demonstrate the technical feasibility at kg-scale
prior to final investment at an industrial unit.
3. Based on the Ni-based spinels patents and the possibility to use a zero-value
mining residue, the Rio-Tinto Iron and Titane company
has been interested in proving the feasibility of producing this catalytic
formulation and using it as an industrial H2-production catalysts
through NG Steam, Dry or Mixed reforming as well as though partial oxidation.
The scale-up endeavour is being funded by FR-QNT and the company and the pilot
scale 20-atm reformer and catalyst production facility at kg-lab scale is at
the final detailed engineering step and will be built and installed in the UdeS
facility mentioned herein above.
4. The research activities of our Pfizer Industrial Chair team has produced a significant number of successful Process
Analytical Technology tools; these tools are both general and specific to some
industrial processes in the pharmaceutical production chains. Particulate
mixtures blending and gravity flows through feed frames in tablet presses are
examples of such specific applications. Pfizer PASG team integrates these
technologies at various productions sites within Pfizer.
